After encouragement by the Software Support team, I thought it would be fun to add a new type of post to the blog, a place to share our holiday memories. This season of hustle and bustle can get so busy, sometimes it’s nice to take a break!
Without further ado, here’s our first story:
The Software Support folks found themselves celebrating a team member’s birthday recently and decided to go to the food court in our local mall for lunch. Upon entering the mall, they realized Santa was available for photos and couldn’t miss the opportunity for a snapshot with the big guy. No one had the courage to sit on his lap, but they got their picture!
This reminded Kyle of the first time he took his dog to see Santa Paws at a Petsmart benefit for Pikes Peak Regional Animal Shelter in Colorado Springs. He figured the money would go to a good cause and it would be fun. So he loaded up Bert, the 10 month old mixed breed pup that had only known life on the streets, and headed to the store.
Once Kyle and Bert had made their way to the back of the store to meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus, there were three wet spots on the floor, two traumatized cats, and an entire rack of chew toys scattered across an aisle. Bert weighed a petite 100 pounds and was on medication to help keep him calm. Clearly, this was a new experience for everyone!
By this point, Bert was so scared that all he knew to do was crawl on his belly across the store. Mr. and Mrs. Claus spent 5 minutes trying to get Bert to sit with them but after many unsuccessful attempts, they decided to sit on the floor with him. After they quickly took a photo, Kyle and Bert ran out of the store with their “tails between their legs” so to speak.
Ever since then, Kyle does his best to take his dogs to an area Santa Paws event and it’s always an adventure. But none are like that first visit, years ago.
