I am sure that there have been times when you’ve wondered if there was something better than what you are doing or someone better suited for you than your current partner.  Well, let me assure you, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. American author Micca Monda Campbell writes: “Have you ever secretly compared your spouse to another man or woman…or wished they were more thoughtful…more spiritual…a better dresser? If you have, let me reassure you the grass isn’t greener on the other side.”

The chaplain agrees with these wise words. Instead of walking around on your neighbor’s grass, fertilize your own by looking for the good in your relationships with loved ones. Speak encouraging words, acknowledge their efforts to improve and become their cheerleader. Your children, your spouse or partner and your friends need to hear encouraging words from you.

In the year 2020, all of us will make new commitments…new promises…new ventures, and with each of these, we need to remember that we will face new trials and tribulations along the journey. You will be tested to the point of giving in and giving up. I am reminded of a biblical passage that says, “ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happened to them all.” The power of this passage gives quite a jolt at its end, striking to the core of human existence.

Time and chance are what we have in this life; however, these are things that we have no control over. It makes me wonder what they were dealing with and thinking about so many, many years ago to write such true and powerful words. These same words ring true to our times because at the end of the day, at the end of 2020, all we will be granted are “time and chance.”

The reality is “God, who holds time and chance in his hands, is the only one who can put you at the right place at the right time.” So, live the testimony of one who knows that God is in complete control. Best wishes for a happy, healthy new year to all!

And, Never Give Up! Never Give Up! Never Give Up!
