We often stress over crises we experience in life. Coping with a crisis can be difficult. How you handle it, however, can determine whether you feel overwhelmed or emerge stronger. Sometimes, acknowledging a crisis is the first step to coping.
The great biblical King David acknowledged his own crisis when he expressed in the book of Psalms, “I cry to you, O Lord; I say, You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living… Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low!” It is important to note that David made his request to the Lord.
Acknowledging that you have a crisis is the first step, and, as David did, expressing your problem, especially to God, is vital. Remember, God already knows how you feel, and stifling your emotions only saps your energy, leaves you tense and depressed, and slows the healing process. As Proverbs tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
In the book of 1 Peter, we are reminded to “cast all our cares upon the Lord, for he cares for us.” Peter urges us to place our distractions in God’s hands because the God of the universe has personal compassion for each of us. These distractions can take many forms. For some, it’s an emotional or physical challenge. Others carry deep hurt from a tragedy. Still others face family health situations, such as an ill spouse or child. Because God loves mercy more than sacrifice, he often answers the prayers of those who are overwhelmed. When a crisis stems from something we have said or done, we need to understand that God often allows a crisis to enter our lives to change us. So, we need to be willing to change.
Finally, I suggest you confide in someone, such as a friend, when experiencing a crisis. This doesn’t mean you have to pour out your heart to everyone. Just open up to those who love and care about you. The Bible says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
Social support can help you through crises. However, remember that God is the ultimate source of help. Through your prayers and praises, you will be able to manage your problems and emerge with renewed spirits. So today, be blessed, stay healthy, and never give up! Never give up! Never give up!
