Too often in life we take things for granted. We assume that something will always be the way it is now, to the point of failing to appreciate its existence at all. For example, you might assume that you will have a relationship with someone that will last forever, not realizing that the other person does not share the same aspirations.

Let me caution you against falling into this way of thinking. For example, taking your income for granted can put you at financial risk if you lose your job. Similarly, taking your health for granted can lead to poor self-care if you neglect important check-ups. There are many other reasons why we should take nothing for granted.

In the great Biblical words from Hebrews, the writer informs the people about two important wisdoms.  First, “do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” Second, he says, “make sure you don’t take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others.”

It is vitally important that we do not forget those who are less fortunate in our sphere, such as those who are suffering from illness, homelessness or starvation.. We cannot take for granted that they will find help for their situation by some other means. This would be a fallacy in our thinking or judgement. Those of us who are blessed to have an abundance of resources are compelled to support the least fortunate among God’s people.

When we don’t take anything for granted, we build a stronger mind. We become more resilient and happier without even trying because we’ve strengthened our mind to think this way. When I encounter someone who is homeless or who has other needs, I say to myself that this could have been me had it not been for the goodness of God. So, take nothing for granted when you have the means to help someone.

Today I encourage you to not take things for granted in your life.  If you do, it will be like feeling gratitude and not expressing it or like wrapping a present and not giving it.

Be happy with what you have. Enjoy the moment like there will not be another one like it and be a blessing to others along your journey. Never Give Up! Never Give Up! Never Give Up!
