LHP team members gathered in Sevierville the first week of May for “Building Leaders, Building Communities,” a three-day leadership conference. The annual event brought together regional and community property managers, maintenance supervisors, and corporate staff to focus on professional growth and collaboration.
Moving from Managing to Leading
For Sarah Alexander, LHP’s Director of Talent Development, the conference is all about giving leaders the space to step outside their day-to-day routines and broaden their perspectives.
“It’s an opportunity for our managers to network, learn from job-specific presenters, and really transition from managing to leading,” says Sarah, adding that letting loose and having some fun together was also high on the agenda. Another highlight was the presentation of LHP’s annual property management awards where teams were recognized and cheered for their stellar performance over the past year.
AI, EQ, and Beating Burnout
The learning kicked off with Chris Walker, SVP of Technology Innovation, who led a crucial session on navigating the world of AI securely and smartly. Sarah guided the team through their personalized Agile EQ Leadership DiSC insights, challenging everyone to step outside their comfort zones to better navigate workplace challenges. To ensure the team is taking care of themselves as well as their properties, they heard a powerful session on combatting burnout led by Dr. Kelly Drummond, Head of Talent Operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
On the final day, attendees split into specialized tracks designed to deliver practical, role-specific expertise. Property Managers deep-dived into Yardi support best practices with Gayle Wessner, LHP Director of Software Support, and received critical Tennessee fair housing updates from attorney Angelita Fisher. Meanwhile, Maintenance Supervisors rolled up their sleeves for an intensive, hands-on appliance troubleshooting and repair course hosted by Melvin Bailey of HD Supply. The conference wrapped up with a community-focused general session led by Hayley Griffith of the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking (CCAHT), who educated the team on how to recognize and respond to human trafficking in their daily environments.
Heading Home Recharged
