Samuel, a great prophet, played several significant roles in the Bible. He was Israel’s last judge, its first prophet, and a key figure in the transition from the period of the judges to the monarchy. He served as a leader, mediator, and prophet, guiding the Israelites toward national unity and establishing the monarchy. His leadership was superb because of his heart.
Many people believe that what’s in a person’s heart is what truly matters. So, when God was ready to anoint the next king of Israel, he used Samuel’s great leadership abilities to guide the process. During the selection process, God gave Samuel specific criterion to look for in a leader.
God told Samuel, “Do not look at the person’s appearance or the height of his stature, for the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” These are qualities that matter in any person who is a leader.
When considering what matters in the heart of a person, especially from a perspective that emphasizes connection and authentic communication, it comes down to authenticity, sincerity, and the ability to share one’s true self. This includes being open, vulnerable, and willing to connect with others on a deeper level, allowing their inner self to shine through.
When a leader is genuine and sincere in their communication, they foster trust and connection with their followers. People are drawn to those who are true to themselves and speak from the heart. Effective leaders need a heart that displays empathy and understanding. They need to be able to see the world from different perspectives and to connect with others on an emotional level.
When God rejected Saul as King over Israel because of his disobedience, he sent Samuel to anoint a new King. God was looking for a man with a heart that pleased him, not one with a good outward appearance. Samuel was then told to bring David.
Many wonderful illustrations, conversations, and activities address how outer appearance is not as important as what lies in the heart of a person. The saying “what lies in a person’s heart is what counts” emphasizes that a person’s character and true nature are determined by their inner thoughts, intentions, and motivations, rather than just their outward actions or appearance.
This idea suggests that a person’s core values and beliefs are the most important aspects of who they are, and that these internal qualities ultimately shape their behavior and relationships. A person’s true nature is revealed through the heart. Be blessed and Never Give Up! Never Give Up! Never Give Up!
