When living through difficult times, it can feel nearly impossible to believe that things will get better. Seeing divorce rates escalate, watching unemployment grow and grieving the loss of parents and friends can be overwhelming. Because we cannot clearly see how things are going to turn around, our anxiety often escalates out of control.
Take heart and be encouraged: no matter how dark things seem, God is still in control. He is actively at work, even when you cannot see Him. Gospel songwriters often remind us that true encouragement starts from within—by encouraging yourself through faith. Rather than waiting for outside validation, speak victory over your circumstances and replace negative feelings with God’s promises.
Don’t just turn to God when you need a miracle; instead, focus on your relationship with him and the miracle will be there when you need it. As the Lord said, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
The Gospel songwriter William Becton captured this truth in his song “Be Encouraged:” Be encouraged no matter what’s going on. He’ll make it alright, but you gotta stay strong. Hold on, trouble don’t last always, these trials are just a test, just a test of your faith. So, stand strong and dry your weeping eyes, cause joy comes in the morning, and everything is gonna be alright.”
Furthermore, the Bible teaches us to view encouragement not just as a positive feeling, but as a deliberate infusion of courage. Scriptures command believers to uplift one another daily, promising that God is a constant source of strength who gives peace during trials and enduring hope through his word.
The Lord assures us that we should not be afraid, for he is always with us. We are encouraged to comfort each other in tribulation because life will have hardships. The Book of Proverbs teaches that true encouragement comes through community and the intentional power of speech. Speaking life-giving truth brings healing, and seeking godly counsel helps lift our spirits when we feel low.
Be encouraged today and remember to use your words to lift the spirit of others. Speak gracious, helpful words to those who need encouragement. As the Psalmist proclaims, “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Be blessed and Never Give Up! Never Give Up! Never Give Up!
