We are all living in perilous times. We cannot be certain what challenges the next day will present. We don’t know what new relationships we will encounter or what medical challenges we may face. However, whatever we find ourselves up against, going to the right source for help is paramount.
Finding the right source can be challenging as well. Every day, we must look out for scammers, fake advertisements promoting quick fixes, and things that are appealing but offer no real solutions. Navigating through these and finding the right source can cause anxiety. Let me suggest that you start by seeking guidance from the Lord before doing anything else.
The Bible teaches that God wants to guide us. He promises to provide wisdom, clear direction, and counsel when we humbly ask. It teaches us to rely on God’s understanding rather than our own, which requires active faith and a sincere heart to receive his guidance.
Whenever you seek guidance from the Lord, you must ask in faith, trusting that he will provide. Scripture encourages those who lack wisdom to ask God who gives it generously to everyone. Trust is always the foundation when we seek guidance from the Lord.
The most famous scripture about trust and surrender comes from the book of Proverbs, where the author directs us to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” This attitude of trust must be coupled with humility as God guides you in what is right and points you toward the way you should go.
Maybe you are trying to decide if you should take a new job, buy a new home, or start a business. Maybe you are wondering what to do while you are waiting for the Lord to fulfill a promise. Finding the right source for guidance requires the virtue of patience. Seeking guidance often involves waiting on God’s timing rather than rushing into a decision.
Finally, you must always be aware of the source you select because the decisions you make can have long-lasting ramifications. Even when standing among the ruins of his life, David found strength in the Lord as his source of refuge—and you will too. So, seek wise counselors. It might be the last thing you feel like doing—because misery loves company—but the wiser counsel you follow, the better your outcome will be.
