Congratulations to our property management staff members who recently earned their Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) accreditation. The COS title recognizes extensive training and proficiency in HUD occupancy and compliance requirements, and it is an important designation for management staff in the affordable housing industry.
The certification involves comprehensive study of HUD’s Office of Multifamily Housing guidelines and regulations in the HUD Handbook 4350.3 REV-1. Topics covered include rent calculation, eligibility, verification, recertification, tenant screening, and Fair Housing. The LHP team members made a significant commitment to pursue their certification and it is not an easy process, according to Tracy Young, LHP trainer and coach. They had to complete four half days of training and then sit for a very challenging exam.
