Danielle and Michael

When temperatures soared into triple digits recently, the management team at Tivoli Place, kept their cool in the face of a daunting challenge. No fewer than 15 air conditioning units across several floors of the high-rise community unexpectedly shut down around 4 p.m. one afternoon. Community Manager Danielle Tigner and Maintenance Supervisor Michael Kincey quickly sprang into action, demonstrating exceptional dedication and earning them recognition as our next LHP Positive Resident Experience (PRE) Leader honorees.

As residents began to report their units failing, Michael investigated and discovered the problem was more complex than a simple fix. The AC units were interconnected, meaning that when the local utility company turned off power to one unit, it inadvertently caused 14 others to shut down.

Danielle immediately contacted the utility company, emphasizing that Tivoli Place is home to elderly and disabled residents. She made multiple calls to customer service offering to pay for the delinquent apartment’s bill to get the AC unit back online. With each call, she received the same disheartening news: it could take several days to restore power! Danielle knew the residents would be severely stressed by the intense Southern Louisiana heat and realized she had to find an alternative solution, and fast.

So, before the sweltering heat could truly become unbearable, Danielle and Michael split up to canvass local hardware stores for portable AC units. They returned with carloads of the units and then went door-to-door, distributing the units and ensuring residents had plenty of water and any other necessities to stay comfortable. They worked late into the evening, personally installing the units in each affected apartment.

To say the Tivoli team avoided a “hot mess” is a huge understatement; with temperatures soaring, the situation could have been life-threatening for some residents. Facing such immense responsibility, keeping a cool head is a formidable challenge. How did they stay calm under such pressure? Danielle simply says, “Teamwork makes the dream work!”
