As a child growing up in a community with many playmates, I learned that a leader on the playground should lead by example while being responsible for respecting each person. This is the true meaning of responsible servant leadership.
Responsible servant leadership is a leadership philosophy focused on prioritizing the growth and the well-being of others first, rather than personal power or recognition. In this philosophy, a leader’s primary motivation is to serve the needs of others, putting others’ highest priority needs above their own.
However, in order to have any influence on a person as a servant leader, it is essential to establish a connection on an individual and human level. The Apostle Paul promotes servant leadership by presenting the Lord as the ultimate model, emphasizing that true greatness comes from serving others, not from lording over them.
Responsible servant leadership involves humility, sacrifice, and a selfless attitude exemplified by an individual caring for others through sacrifice. In the Bible’s Book of Mark, the Apostle writes, “if any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.” This means servant leaders must be willing to make sacrifices for the well-being of others, following God’s model of self-giving.
Servant leaders commit to serving others humbly rather than dominating them. It is paramount that all of humanity work together to make life better for those who are less fortunate. This is the responsibility of servant leadership.
One of my favor biblical passes on this topic comes from the Apostles Paul’s writings to the Philippians: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” This reminds us to look not only at our own interests, but also to the interests of others. Our attitude should be the same as the Lord’s.
As members of this great society where we live and play, leaders should lead with integrity and purpose that support all of humanity. Responsible servant leadership offers a down-to-earth approach that emphasizes courage, honor, and the importance of living a true life to make the world a better place. So, be blessed and Never Give Up! Never Give Up! Never Give Up!
