Too often we overlook the value of getting plenty of rest. Most people work hard trying to achieve an objective or task they have committed to completing. But are we getting the rest that is required for a healthy functional body, mind, and spirit?

I am reminded that one of the most spiritual things we can do is to go to bed earlier and wake up refreshed, ready to fulfill God’s purposes for the day. When we constantly run on low battery power, it affects our attitudes, relationships and certainly our health.

The Bible talks about the importance of rest, saying: “it is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.” Working long and demanding hours is not healthy for the body to function adequately for everyday tasks.

Resting is an act of trust that says that we trust God to supply all our needs. When you rest or go to sleep at night, you acknowledge that the world is in God’s hands and things will go on without your helping hands. And when you wake up in morning—just as God gave Israel fresh manna— he will provide what you need for the day. The prophet Jeremiah said, “I awoke and looked around, and my sleep was sweet to me.”

It is vitally important for all of us to know that rest and sleep are valuable for restoring and supporting mental, emotional and physical health. They allow the body to repair cells, to regulate hormones, consolidate memories, and improve mood and concentration. So, make sure you get the necessary rest your body needs each day for good health.

Medical research has shown that getting enough rest strengthens the immune system, helping you get sick less often. It also helps lower the risk of chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. An important attribute of resting and sleeping is that it provides the energy the body needs to carry out daily functions and activities.

Finally, research shows that the right amount of rest and sleep is vital for concentration, clear thinking, forming long-term memories, and making good decisions in your life. It boosts endurance and helps you function at your best. Just as we encourage our children to get their rest by going to sleep, we must do the same for ourselves. So, stay healthy by getting plenty of rest. Be blessed, and Never Give Up! Never Give Up! Never Give Up!
