Residents, local officials, housing professionals and LHP employees gathered yesterday for a ribbon cutting ceremony and party to celebrate the completion of Westview Tower’s $17 million facelift. The significant rehab accomplished a top-to-bottom renovation to revitalize the 240-unit property and extend the affordability of the apartment homes for 30 years.
“Everything is new again,” said Alvin Nance, LHP CEO of Development. “Every apartment unit has been completely refurbished with new flooring, new kitchens, new baths, modern fixtures, paint, basically the works.”
The rehab brought wonderful new amenities to Westview: every household now enjoys free cable TV and internet, and residents can use the property’s three laundry facilities on floors 5, 8 and 11 at no charge. A computer lab with five computers was added for resident use, and the hair salon was modernized with professional-grade furnishings. Residents also have brand-new outdoor space to enjoy during favorable weather with the addition of a garden pergola and furniture on a second floor balcony.
The renovation also addressed critical infrastructure needs, incorporated energy-saving features, and improved its exterior appearance and curb appeal. Twelve units were fully reconfigured to meet ADA mobility standards and a number of ADA clearances were made in the community room, parking area and building entry points.
Resident Cynthia Whitley said she is thrilled with her new home and that it feels like a brand new place. Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon speaking at the ceremony thanked LHP Capital for maintaining Westview Tower as affordable housing, despite the trend of converting similar properties into market-rate units. Cynthia and Mayor Kincannon joined LHP leaders and project partners to cut the ribbon symbolizing the completion of Westview Tower’s renovation.
