This month the LHP Employee Spotlight is on Sundai Stevenson, an employee who is making a big difference in the lives of our residents and in the greater community where she lives and works. Sundai is the Senior Community Manager for Three Rivers Garden and Spring Grove Apartments in Rome, Georgia and is in her sixth year as a Rome City Commissioner currently serving as Mayor Pro Tem.
In addition, she is involved in numerous civic, service and social organizations, including serving as Chairperson of the Rome-Northwest Georgia M. L. King Commission, board member of Open Door Home, Good Neighbor Ministry, Rome Shakespeare Festival and African-American Connection for the Performing Arts, and founding and current board member of One Community United, a local nonprofit created in 2015 to promote racial harmony and bring about a more united community among citizens of Rome and Floyd County.
Her work with the Rome City Commission, One Community United and other service organizations, enables her to improve services and opportunities for individuals and families with limited means which dovetails with many of her responsibilities at LHP. Often, she aids residents in crisis by connecting them to important social services and resources, and with 15 years of experience in affordable housing, she is a strong advocate for those who struggle to find decent housing.
“Sundai makes sure that the children at her two properties have back to school and other supplies they need throughout the school year,” according to Shanta McCullers, Community Manager at nearby Dallas Manor, who nominated Sundai for the Spotlight award.
Her father was key in shaping who she is today. The oldest of five children, Sundai was only 8 years old when her father and a cousin were involved in a tragic automobile accident. The cousin was killed and Sundai’s father sustained injuries that left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. But he never let the disability hinder him in any way. He stayed a man of faith, gratitude and service and he was a respected community leader others sought out for advice.
Sundai is a leader who aspires to make positive change for her community and a better quality of life for her residents. By doing so, she learns and grows, she says. “Helping others brings me joy.”
LHP is pleased to shine the spotlight on Sundai Stevenson. We appreciate all that you do each day to make our communities healthier and happier places to live.
